5 Practical Ways to Detect Refrigerant Leakage

Author:Corun Date:2018/07/16

Though refrigerant leakage rarely happens to Transport Refrigeration Unit nor Electric Air Conditioner from Corunclima, knowing how to detect the leakage does not hurt, right? Follow Corun to know how:

First, by visual inspection: if there is oil stain somewhere, it may be a leakage point. This is the easiest way but not accurate. Unless the system has big leakage points, and the leakage is liquid colored medium, otherwise visual inspection cannot locate the leakage point, because normally the leakage point is very small, and many parts of the refrigeration system are invisible.

Second, by bubble water or soap water: fill the system with 10-20kg/CM2 pressure nitrogen, then apply soap water at all parts of the system by using a sponge. The leakage point is where there is bubbling. This is the most common leak detection method for the maintenance workers, but human arm is limited and human vision range is limited, so many times you cannot actually see the leakage point.

Third, by fluorescent leak detector: the fluorescent leak detector being exposed to the ultraviolet / blue light detector lamp will emit bright green-yellow light. Fluorescence leak detection makes use of this principle to detect leakage in the system. Add the fluorescent agent into the system per a certain proportion. After 20 minutes of system operation, wear a pair of special glasses, and use detector lamp to shine the outside of the system, the leakage point will show yellow fluorescence.

Fourth, by gas differential pressure: using the air pressure difference inside and outside the system, amplify the pressure difference by the sensor, and the leak detection result is shown in the way of digital, sound or electronic signal. This method can only know qualitatively whether the system is leaking and cannot be used to find the leakage point.

Fifth, by electronic leak detector: electronic leak detector is a reliable leak detector, It rapidly grapes the market because of its accuracy. Move the probe to possible leakage points, when the leak detector alarms, that is to show that there is leakage. Leak detection by electronic leak detector is the most scientific and simple leak detection method at present.
